 |
1. Ha Mim! |
2. By the Book that makes plain. |
3. Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning (against evil and its consequences) - |
4. Therein (the blessed night) every wise affair is made clear, |
5. A command from Us; surely We are ever the senders (of revelations), |
6. As a mercy from your Lord. Surely He is the Hearer, the Knower, |
7. The Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if you would be sure (in faith.) |
8. There is no God but He; He quickens and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. |
9. Nay, but they make sport in doubt, |
10. Therefore, keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring evident smoke (or mist), |
11. That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. |
12. (They pray,) "Our Lord! Remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers." |
13. How can they remember (or understand Allah or the message), when a Messenger making clear (the truth) had already come to them, |
14. Butt they had turned their backs on him and said, "He is one taught by others, a madman." |
15. Lo! We remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). |
16. On the day when We will seize them with a mighty seizing, We will indeed exact retribution. |
17. And certainly We tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble Messenger, |
18. Saying, "Deliver to me the servants of Allah; surely I am a trustworthy messenger unto you, |
19. "And be not arrogant against Allah, for I come with clear authority: |
20. "And surely I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death: |
21. "And if you put no faith in me, then let me go." |
22. Then he called upon his Lord, "These are a guilty people". |
23. (The reply came,) "So go forth with My servants by night; for surely you will be pursued: |
24. "And leave the sea divided (as a furrow); surely they are a host that shall be drowned." |
25. How many are the gardens and springs they have left behind! |
26. And corn fields and noble places! |
27. And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; |
28. Thus it was, and We gave them as a heritage to another people. |
29. So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. |
30. And certainly We delivered the children of Israel from the abasing chastisement, |
31. From Pharaoh; surely he was haughty, (and) one of those who committed excesses. |
32. And certainly We chose them, knowingly (or purposely), above all the nations. |
33. And We gave them signs wherein was a clear trial. |
34. Lo! These (the pagan Arabs) say, |
35. "There is naught but our first death and we shall not be raised again. |
36. "Bring back our fathers, if you are truthful." |
37. What! Are they better than the people of Tubba and those before them? We destroyed them, for surely they were guilty. |
38. And We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them in sport. |
39. We create them both not, except with truth, but most of them know not. |
40. Assuredly the Day of Decision (or of Sorting) is the term appointed for all of them, |
41. The day on which friend can in naught avail friend, nor can they be helped, |
42. Save those on whom Allah has mercy; surely He is the Mighty the Merciful. |
43. Behold the tree of Zaqqum, |
44. Is the food of the sinful, |
45. Like molten brass, it shall boil in (their) bellies, |
46. Like the seesing of boiling water. |
47. (It will be said,) "Seize him, then drag him down into the midst of hell; |
48. Then pour above his head of the torment of the boiling water: |
49. "Saying, ´Taste; lo! You were forsooth the mighty, the noble! |
50. "´Surely this is what you used to doubt!´" |
51. Surely the righteous are in a secure place, |
52. Amidst Gardens and springs; |
53. Attired in fine silk and rich brocade, face to face; |
54. Thus shall it be, and We will join them with Houris (pure and beautiful companions) with wide, lovely eyes. |
55. They shall call in safety therein for every fruit; |
56. They taste not death therein except the first death (i.e. in this physical life), and He will have saved them from the doom of hell, |
57. A grace from your Lord; this is the supreme achievement (or triumph). |
58. Verily We have made it (the Quran) easy in your tongue that they may be mindful. |
59. Therefore wait (O Muhammad); they too are waiting. |
 |
