 |
| عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ {١} |
1. He frowned and then turned away |
| أَنْ جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَىٰ {٢} |
2. from a blind man who had come up to him. |
| وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّىٰ {٣} |
3. You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, |
| أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ {٤} |
4. or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. |
| أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَىٰ {٥} |
5. Yet you pay attention |
| فَأَنْتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّىٰ {٦} |
6. to a rich man, |
| وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ {٧} |
7. though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. |
| وَأَمَّا مَنْ جَاءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ {٨} |
8. As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). |
| وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ {٩} |
9. and who has fear of God, |
| فَأَنْتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ {١٠} |
10. you ignore him. |
| كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ {١١} |
11. These verses are a reminder |
| فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ {١٢} |
12. so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. |
| فِي صُحُفٍ مُكَرَّمَةٍ {١٣} |
13. (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, |
| مَرْفُوعَةٍ مُطَهَّرَةٍ {١٤} |
14. exalted, purified, |
| بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ {١٥} |
15. by the hands of the noble, virtuous, |
| كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ {١٦} |
16. and angelic scribes. |
| قُتِلَ الْإِنْسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ {١٧} |
17. May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? |
| مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ {١٨} |
18. From what has God created him? |
| مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ {١٩} |
19. He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate |
| ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ {٢٠} |
20. and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. |
| ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ {٢١} |
21. Then He caused him to die and be buried |
| ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنْشَرَهُ {٢٢} |
22. and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. |
| كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ {٢٣} |
23. Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. |
| فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسَانُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِ {٢٤} |
24. Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. |
| أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبًّا {٢٥} |
25. We send down abundant water, |
| ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا {٢٦} |
26. and let the earth to break open |
| فَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا {٢٧} |
27. to yield therein corn, |
| وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا {٢٨} |
28. grapes, vegetables, |
| وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا {٢٩} |
29. olives, dates, |
| وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا {٣٠} |
30. thickly planted gardens, |
| وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا {٣١} |
31. fruits, and grass. |
| مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ {٣٢} |
32. (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. |
| فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ {٣٣} |
33. When the trumpet sounds, |
| يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ {٣٤} |
34. it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, |
| وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ {٣٥} |
35. mother, father, |
| وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ {٣٦} |
36. wife and sons, |
| لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ {٣٧} |
37. for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. |
| وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُسْفِرَةٌ {٣٨} |
38. Some faces on that day will be radiant, |
| ضَاحِكَةٌ مُسْتَبْشِرَةٌ {٣٩} |
39. laughing and joyous |
| وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ {٤٠} |
40. but others will be gloomy |
| تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ {٤١} |
41. and covered by darkness. |
| أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ {٤٢} |
42. These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. |
