 |
| عَبَسَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ {١} |
1. He frowned/knit or contracted his brows and he turned away . |
| أَنْ جَاءَهُ الْأَعْمَىٰ {٢} |
2. That (E) the blind (man) came to him. |
| وَمَا يُدْرِيكَ لَعَلَّهُ يَزَّكَّىٰ {٣} |
3. And what makes you know/informs you maybe/perhaps he, he purifies/corrects (himself). |
| أَوْ يَذَّكَّرُ فَتَنْفَعَهُ الذِّكْرَىٰ {٤} |
4. Or He mentions/remembers , so the remembrance/reminder benefits him . |
| أَمَّا مَنِ اسْتَغْنَىٰ {٥} |
5. But/as for who availed/sufficed (rejected) . |
| فَأَنْتَ لَهُ تَصَدَّىٰ {٦} |
6. So you are for him paying attention/being concerned with . |
| وَمَا عَلَيْكَ أَلَّا يَزَّكَّىٰ {٧} |
7. And it (is) not on you that he not purifies/corrects (himself). |
| وَأَمَّا مَنْ جَاءَكَ يَسْعَىٰ {٨} |
8. And but/as for who came to you striving/hastening . |
| وَهُوَ يَخْشَىٰ {٩} |
9. And he fears. |
| فَأَنْتَ عَنْهُ تَلَهَّىٰ {١٠} |
10. So you are from him distracted/preoccupied . |
| كَلَّا إِنَّهَا تَذْكِرَةٌ {١١} |
11. No, but that it truly is a reminder. |
| فَمَنْ شَاءَ ذَكَرَهُ {١٢} |
12. So who wanted/willed remembered/mentioned Him . |
| فِي صُحُفٍ مُكَرَّمَةٍ {١٣} |
13. In honoured written pages/sheets (scriptures) . |
| مَرْفُوعَةٍ مُطَهَّرَةٍ {١٤} |
14. Raised, purified . |
| بِأَيْدِي سَفَرَةٍ {١٥} |
15. By messengers`/scribes`/writers` hands. |
| كِرَامٍ بَرَرَةٍ {١٦} |
16. Honoured/generous , righteous/obedient . |
| قُتِلَ الْإِنْسَانُ مَا أَكْفَرَهُ {١٧} |
17. Killed (`woe`) the human/mankind what made him more disbelieving (an expression)? |
| مِنْ أَيِّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقَهُ {١٨} |
18. From what thing He created him? |
| مِنْ نُطْفَةٍ خَلَقَهُ فَقَدَّرَهُ {١٩} |
19. From a drop/male`s or female`s secretion He created him, so He predestined/evaluated/estimated him. |
| ثُمَّ السَّبِيلَ يَسَّرَهُ {٢٠} |
20. Then (to) the road/path He eased him. |
| ثُمَّ أَمَاتَهُ فَأَقْبَرَهُ {٢١} |
21. Then He made him die, so He caused him to be buried in a grave . |
| ثُمَّ إِذَا شَاءَ أَنْشَرَهُ {٢٢} |
22. Then when/if He willed/wanted/intended He revived/resurrected him . |
| كَلَّا لَمَّا يَقْضِ مَا أَمَرَهُ {٢٣} |
23. No/but he did not (E) accomplish/execute what He ordered/commanded him. |
| فَلْيَنْظُرِ الْإِنْسَانُ إِلَىٰ طَعَامِهِ {٢٤} |
24. So the human/mankind should look/watch to his food. |
| أَنَّا صَبَبْنَا الْمَاءَ صَبًّا {٢٥} |
25. We (E), We poured/flowed the water pouring/flowing. |
| ثُمَّ شَقَقْنَا الْأَرْضَ شَقًّا {٢٦} |
26. Then We split/cracked the earth/Planet Earth splitting/cracking . |
| فَأَنْبَتْنَا فِيهَا حَبًّا {٢٧} |
27. So We sprouted/grew in it seeds/grains. |
| وَعِنَبًا وَقَضْبًا {٢٨} |
28. And grapes and all trees and vegetation when it regrows for animal consumption i.e.) clover. |
| وَزَيْتُونًا وَنَخْلًا {٢٩} |
29. And olives and palm trees. |
| وَحَدَائِقَ غُلْبًا {٣٠} |
30. And dense/luxurious fenced gardens. |
| وَفَاكِهَةً وَأَبًّا {٣١} |
31. And fruits and grass/hay/herbs. |
| مَتَاعًا لَكُمْ وَلِأَنْعَامِكُمْ {٣٢} |
32. Enjoyment for you and for your camels/livestock. |
| فَإِذَا جَاءَتِ الصَّاخَّةُ {٣٣} |
33. So when the Deafening Noise/Resurrection Day came. |
| يَوْمَ يَفِرُّ الْمَرْءُ مِنْ أَخِيهِ {٣٤} |
34. A day/time the human/man escapes/flees from his brother. |
| وَأُمِّهِ وَأَبِيهِ {٣٥} |
35. And his mother, and his father. |
| وَصَاحِبَتِهِ وَبَنِيهِ {٣٦} |
36. And his wife/companion/friend, and his sons and daughters. |
| لِكُلِّ امْرِئٍ مِنْهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ شَأْنٌ يُغْنِيهِ {٣٧} |
37. To every/each human/man from them (on) that day (is) a matter/affair (that) suffices him (worries and keeps him busy). |
| وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ مُسْفِرَةٌ {٣٨} |
38. Faces/fronts (on) that day, lit and shining . |
| ضَاحِكَةٌ مُسْتَبْشِرَةٌ {٣٩} |
39. Laughing, cheerful/rejoiced . |
| وَوُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَيْهَا غَبَرَةٌ {٤٠} |
40. And faces/fronts (on) that day, on it (is) dust. |
| تَرْهَقُهَا قَتَرَةٌ {٤١} |
41. Smoke/dust burdens/depresses/oppresses it. |
| أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْكَفَرَةُ الْفَجَرَةُ {٤٢} |
42. Those, they are the disbelievers, the debauchers/corrupters.458 |
