| إِذَا الشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ {١} |
1. WHEN THE SUN is folded up, |
| وَإِذَا النُّجُومُ انْكَدَرَتْ {٢} |
2. The stars turn dim and scatter, |
| وَإِذَا الْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ {٣} |
3. The mountains made to move, |
| وَإِذَا الْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ {٤} |
4. The ten-month pregnant female camels are abandoned, |
| وَإِذَا الْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ {٥} |
5. The wild beasts stampede on the run, |
| وَإِذَا الْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ {٦} |
6. When the oceans surge and swell, |
| وَإِذَا النُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ {٧} |
7. When souls are reunited (with the bodies) |
| وَإِذَا الْمَوْءُودَةُ سُئِلَتْ {٨} |
8. And the little girl buried alive is asked |
| بِأَيِّ ذَنْبٍ قُتِلَتْ {٩} |
9. For what crime she was put to death; |
| وَإِذَا الصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ {١٠} |
10. When the ledgers are laid open, |
| وَإِذَا السَّمَاءُ كُشِطَتْ {١١} |
11. The curtain drawn back from the skies, |
| وَإِذَا الْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ {١٢} |
12. When Hell is set ablaze, |
| وَإِذَا الْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ {١٣} |
13. And Paradise brought near, |
| عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَا أَحْضَرَتْ {١٤} |
14. (Then) every soul will know what it had prepared (for itself). |
| فَلَا أُقْسِمُ بِالْخُنَّسِ {١٥} |
15. So, I call the receding stars to witness, |
| الْجَوَارِ الْكُنَّسِ {١٦} |
16. The planets withdrawing into themselves, |
| وَاللَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ {١٧} |
17. The closing night, |
| وَالصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ {١٨} |
18. The rising dawn, |
| إِنَّهُ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ {١٩} |
19. That this is indeed the word of an honoured Messenger, |
| ذِي قُوَّةٍ عِنْدَ ذِي الْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ {٢٠} |
20. Full of power, well-established (in position) with the Lord and Master of the Throne, |
| مُطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ {٢١} |
21. Obeyed and worthy there of trust. |
| وَمَا صَاحِبُكُمْ بِمَجْنُونٍ {٢٢} |
22. Your companion is not mad. |
| وَلَقَدْ رَآهُ بِالْأُفُقِ الْمُبِينِ {٢٣} |
23. He had surely seen Him on the clear horizon. |
| وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى الْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ {٢٤} |
24. He is not chary of making public what is unknown. |
| وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَانٍ رَجِيمٍ {٢٥} |
25. This is not the utterance of an accursed devil. |
| فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ {٢٦} |
26. So whither do you stray? |
| إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِلْعَالَمِينَ {٢٧} |
27. This is a reminder for all the peoples of the world, |
| لِمَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يَسْتَقِيمَ {٢٨} |
28. For those of you who desire to walk the path that is straight, |
| وَمَا تَشَاءُونَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَشَاءَ اللَّهُ رَبُّ الْعَالَمِينَ {٢٩} |
29. Though you cannot desire except as God will, the Lord of all the worlds. |
