 |
| اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ {١} |
1. READ (or proclaim), in the name of your Lord! Who created |
| خَلَقَ الْإِنْسَانَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ {٢} |
2. Created man from a clot! |
| اقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ الْأَكْرَمُ {٣} |
3. Read (or proclaim), for your Lord is most Bountiful! |
| الَّذِي عَلَّمَ بِالْقَلَمِ {٤} |
4. Who teaches by the pen! |
| عَلَّمَ الْإِنْسَانَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ {٥} |
5. Taught man what he did not know! |
| كَلَّا إِنَّ الْإِنْسَانَ لَيَطْغَىٰ {٦} |
6. Nay, verily, man is indeed rebellious |
| أَنْ رَآهُ اسْتَغْنَىٰ {٧} |
7. In that he thinks himself independent (or self-sufficient or rich)! |
| إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ الرُّجْعَىٰ {٨} |
8. Verily, unto your Lord is the return! |
| أَرَأَيْتَ الَّذِي يَنْهَىٰ {٩} |
9. Have you considered him who forbids? |
| عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰ {١٠} |
10. A servant when he prays? |
| أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عَلَى الْهُدَىٰ {١١} |
11. Have you considered if he were in guidance |
| أَوْ أَمَرَ بِالتَّقْوَىٰ {١٢} |
12. Or bade piety? |
| أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰ {١٣} |
13. Have you considered if he denied the truth, and turned his back? |
| أَلَمْ يَعْلَمْ بِأَنَّ اللَّهَ يَرَىٰ {١٤} |
14. Does he not know that Allah can see? |
| كَلَّا لَئِنْ لَمْ يَنْتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًا بِالنَّاصِيَةِ {١٥} |
15. Nay, surely, if he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock! |
| نَاصِيَةٍ كَاذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ {١٦} |
16. The lying sinful forelock! |
| فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُ {١٧} |
17. So let him call his council (or comrades): |
| سَنَدْعُ الزَّبَانِيَةَ {١٨} |
18. We will call the guards of Hell! |
| كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَاسْجُدْ وَاقْتَرِبْ ۩ {١٩} |
19. Nay, obey him not, but adore and draw nigh (unto Allah)! |
